  Objectives: This position acts as the gatekeeper and manager of information to be posted/updated to our website.

Programs:

  Objectives: This committee arranges speakers and programs of interest to club members and their guests. Quality programs will ensure the ongoing vitality of the club through high member attendance, member education, member interest, and the encouragement of members to bring guests for the programs.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide a monthly report to the President, President-Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Chair, Web Liaison and Newsletter Chair listing the speakers scheduled for the next month.
 
  • Arrange programs for regular membership meetings. Effort should be made to vary the focus of the programs/speakers.
 
  • Communicate the scheduled programs to the newsletter editor.
 
  • Solicit member participation in determining program topics of interest.
 
  • Introduce speakers, rotating the role of program chair among club members.
 
  • Chair is to maintain data and management tools(lists, spreadsheets, etc) electronically (if possible) and in hard copy in a "Committee Briefing Book" to pass on to the next chair.

Public Relations:

  Objective: This committee is responsible for providing information regarding the club's activities and endeavors to all possible media. This committee is also responsible for the club's internal newsletter and development and maintenance of the club's web site.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide monthly report to your Vice President outlining concerns or soliciting input.
 
  • Send an electronic/print newsletter to each member of the Fargo Lions Club monthly from September through June.
  • Communicate with the Program Chair, Lions Information Chair, Historical Chair, President and Fundraising Chairs on a regular basis for newsletter items.
  • Send information regarding club activities and fundraisers to local newspapers (Forum, Midweek), radio venues, and local TV stations.
  • Coordinate with Fargo Lions Club Committee Chairs to solicit information of interest to the Fargo-Moohread community for possible publication in local newspapers, radio and TV stations.
  • Ensure the Fargo Lions Club plaque in the lobby of the Radisson is displayed and in good repair
  • Create a brochure and promotional materials for club members.
  • Send at least five photographs items and articles to the ND Lion newspaper for potential publication.
  • Send at least three photographic items and articles to the Lions Magazine for potential publication.

Lions Conservancy Park:

  Objective: This committee provide leadership and coordination for ongoing development and maintenance of the Fargo Lions Conservancy Park.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide a monthly report to the President-Elect outlining progress, needs, and upcoming events or activities.
  • Meet and confer with the Fargo Park District and Riverkeepers to coordinate progress in developing and maintaining the Park.
  • Facilitate periodic meetings with other interested agencies in developing ideas and educational endeavors relating to the Park.
  • Coordinate activities involving the membership of the Fargo Lions Club in maintenance or development efforts at the Park.
  • Work with club's Public Relations Committee To keep the community informed about development, educational programs, activities, and availability of the Conservancy Park.
  • Solicit grants and other funding sources to augment the financial support of the Fargo Lions Club in maintaining and developing the Park.
  • Provide periodic reports to the membership of the Fargo Lions Club outlining progress, needs, and upcoming events or activities of the Park.
  • Chair is to maintain data and management tools(lists, spreadsheets, etc) electronically (if possible) and in hard copy in a "Committee Briefing Book" to pass on to the next chair.

Youth Education

  Objective: This committee supports the youth in our community in their endeavors related to the ideals and service objectives of Lionism.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide a monthly report to the President-Elect outlining upcoming or recent activities.
  • Work with the COmmunity Service Committee to coordinate at least two joint service projects each year.
  • Coordinate with area schools to conduct an annual Peace Poster contest.
  • Solicit funds or prizes for Peace Poster contestants and/or winners.
  • Support Youth Exchange efforts as requested/appropriate.
  • Provide guidance and support to our Leo Club
  • Inform the membership of the Fargo Lions Club Leo Club activities.
  • Organize annual Fargo Lions Speech Contest and Laura Christenson Espejo Social Justice Prize.

Membership and Retention Committee:

  Objective: Ensure the future health and vitality of the Club by encouraging and assisting in the identification, recruitment and induction of new members whose personal and professional values and aims match those of the Club and of Lionism.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide a monthly report to your Vice President.
  • Coordinate new member induction with the Membership Vice President, President and other Club Officers.
  • Brainstorm, organize and communicate recruitment efforts of all Club members,
  • Send a Thank You Letter including an invitation to membership to each Program Speaker.
  • Follow up with prospective members, responding appropriately to any questions or concerns regarding membership responsibilities, dues, and objectives.

New Member Committee:

 

Objective: Provide an avenue for new members from the previous and current year to become acclimated to Fargo Lions and contribute to the success of the club by managing two projects (one service; one fund raising) of the committees' creation. A seasoned Lion serves as mentor. Committee membership is automatic for previous year and current year new members (new members from January1 of previous calendar year through May of current Lions year).

  Requirements:
 
  • Initiate and manage one service project in the current Lions year (inviting participation by ALL Fargo Lions members).
  • Initiate and manage one fun-raising project in the current Lions year (inviting participation by ALL Fargo Lions members.

Lions Information:

  Objective: Ensures Club members are informed and motivated regarding the objectives and ideals of Lionism.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide a monthly report to your Vice President detailing the Lions Information topic and presenter at periodic Lions meetings.
  • Assign or recruit members to provide brief educational presentations regarding Lionism at periodic Lions meetings.
  • Provide a brief piece of Lions trivia history, or other item of interest regarding Lionism to the Newsletter editor to be included in newsletters.
  • Provide educational information on vision or health-related research or other relevant aspects of this aspect of our mission to the members of the Fargo Lions CLub (through member-share, newsletter, or business meetings).
  • Chair is to maintain data and management tools(lists, spreadsheets, etc) electronically (if possible) and in hard copy in a "Committee Briefing Book" to pass on to the next chair.

Lions Relations:

  Objective: To encourage and facilitate the development and understanding of Club members in local, state and multiple district and international Lionism
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide a monthly report to your Vice President outlining upcoming events and participation at recent events.
  • Coordinate the recruitment of Fargo Lions attendance at each Lions Convention of the year. Requesting funding assistance from the Board of Directors.
  • Communicate with Fargo Lions via meeting announcements and the newsletter the dates and locations of conventions.
  • Contact Fargo Lions directly to recruit or confirm their attendance.
  • Coordinate transportation and housing for Fargo Lions at each convention.
  • Specific effort is to be made to educate and encourage the participation of new Fargo Lions Club members and those with previously limited involvement in Lionism beyond the Club level.
  • Coordinate visits of Fargo LIons to each club in our zone (Horace, Heart of HOrace, West Fargo, Gateway, Edgewood, Arthur, Grandin) and to issue invitations to area Clubs to visit the Fargo Lions Club, communicating meeting dates, locations, and scheduled programs.
  • Strongly encourage each member to attend at least one visitation.
  • Invite our District Governor and other area Lions to our membership meetings, advising tem of upcoming programs or activities of interest.

Club Services

  Objective: This Committee coordinates the provision of services to the members of the Fargo Lions Club during meetings and in time of need or crisis.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide a monthly report to your Vice President as needed.
  • Solicit members to serve as greeters and to give the invocation at each regular meeting. Whenever feasible, newer members are to be encouraged to serve as greeters in order to get acquainted.
  • Serve as a "focal point" for information to flow to and from the club regarding members who are ill or hospitalized, sending cards or flowers as appropriate to club members or their families.
  • Arrange for musical accompaniment and a song leader for each regular membership meeting and for special activities as needed.

Social Committee

  Objective: This committee provides the membership opportunities to have fun as Lions and families, building camaraderie and commitment to the Fargo Lions Club.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide a report to your Vice President outlining upcoming events and/or the results of recent activities.
  • Set up periodic social events for club members and/or families. Suggested activities may include but are not limited to: Mystery bus trips, Fall social, Holiday Party, Awards Banquet (Sprig), Valentine's Party, Summer picnic (at Conservancy Park!!) and zone picnic.
  • Announce upcoming event, coordinating sign-up, providing attendance information to Treasurer for billing as necessary.
  • Coordinate events as much as possible with Community Services Chair.

Under the leadership of the Vice President for Finance Blake Strehlow:

Budget and Fundraising Oversight Committee:

  Objective: Responsible for all fiscal operations of the Club. THis group assists and advises the Treasurer in his or her duties. Considers the effectiveness of the fundraising projects of the Fargo Lions Club, recommending changes or additions to these efforts.
  Requirements:
  Re: Budget
 
  • Assist the treasurer in: The preparations of financial statements for all Club members dues. Collecting and depositing member dues. Billing members for auxiliary charges (mints, pins, supplies, clothing etc.).
  • Advises the Board of Directors of any outstanding member's dues or charges.
  • ENsures the Club has adequate and appropriate insurance for all property and events.
  • Arranges for periodic and regular auditing of the Club's finances.
  • Advises the Treasurer on the format and preparation of all Club financial report.
  • Assist in providing financial advice and leadership in all Club fundraising activities; current and prospective.
  • Ensures ongoing financial stability in the event of a change in (planned or unplanned) the Treasurer's position via succession planning, mentoring and leadership.
  Re:Fundraising:
 
  • Meet and discuss effectiveness of current fundraising efforts.
  • Brainstorm new fundraising possibilities.
  • Research the feasibility of new fundraising ideas.
  • Solicit membership input on the above.
  • Present new fundraising recommendations to the Board of Directors for final approval.
  • Coordinate the "launch" of any new fundraising effort.

"It's a Wonderful Night"

  Objective: Raise funds via sale of tickets to this special West Acres event held late fall each year.
  Requirements:
 
  • Serve as liaison with West acres to procure tickets.
  • Promote ticket distribution with club members
  • Collect ticket proceeds and submit the to club Treasurer.
  • Chair is to maintain data and management tools(lists, spreadsheets, etc) electronically (if possible) and in hard copy in a "Committee Briefing Book" to pass on to the next chair.
   
    It's a Wonderful Night Chair: Larry Odegaard
   

Football Fundraiser:

  Objective: This committee oversees the raising of funds and community awareness in support of the service objectives of the Fargo Lions Club through the annual sale of football booklets.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide a monthly report to the President Elect during the months leading up to and immediately following the sale.
  • Set date(s) of sale and a financial goal with the Board's approval.
  • Set kickoff for publicity with club.
  • Chair is to maintain data and management tools(lists, spreadsheets, etc) electronically (if possible) and in hard copy in a "Committee Briefing Book" to pass on to the next chair.

February Fundraising Committee :

  Objective: The committee organizes and auction fundraiser bringing together cake bakers from the community (professional and amateur) and potential donors. The funds are used by the Community Grants Committee and Education and Youth committees.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide monthly reports to your Vice President.
  • Develop promotional information for club meetings to build enthusiasm.
  • Promote the auction through public relations efforts involving radio stations, The Forum, and media outlets.
  • Print tickets for club members to sell, distribute promotional tickets to participating organizations, and sell tickets at the door on the day of the event.
  • Coordinate arrangements with dinner vendor and event facility and arrange for Fargo Lions to be greeters and helpers at the auction..
  • Contact bakeries, big prize contributors, and vendor table contributors to participate.
  • Arrange for silent auction.
  • Secure auctioneer to conduct live auction.

Community Services:

  Objective: This committee serves the Fargo-Moorhead community by providing valuable volunteer services. The club's goal is to perform one service project per month during the Lions year (September - May)
  Requirements:
 
  • Screen request for volunteer assistance from service organizations.
  • Proactively initiate/solicit appropriate projects.
  • Manage involvement of club members in service projects.
  • Coordinate information that may be useful in promoting Fargo Lions with the Public Relations Chair.
  • Coordinate events with Social Chair whenever possible.
  • Chair is to maintain data and management tools(lists, spreadsheets, etc) electronically (if possible) and in hard copy in a "Committee Briefing Book" to pass on to the next chair.

Community Funding/Grants Committee:

  Objectives: This Committee recommends disbursements from the project fund to the Board of Directors of the Fargo Lions Club.
  Requirements:
 
  • Provide monthly reports to your Vice President outlining requests received and recommendations for funding.
  • Organize request for funding for consideration by the committee.
  • Meet periodically to consider requests for funding and povide a recommendation to the Board as to which requests to fund.
  • Communicate with agencies or individuals who have requested ourassistance, clarifying questions or concerns and/or letting them know of ourdecisiong to participate in funding or not funding their endeavor.
  • Report to the membership during the monthly business meeting informations on funding disbursements.

Caroling for Vision

  Objective: This Committee coordinates the holiday caroling event.
  Requirements:
 
  • Coordinate and promote the community caroling event in conjunction with the Holiday Lights Parade.
  • Form/maintain partnerships with other community sponsors.
  • Chair is to maintain data and management tools(lists, spreadsheets, etc) electronically (if possible) and in hard copy in a "Committee Briefing Book" to pass on to the next chair.

Health Services:

  Objective: This committee screens requests for health-related services or support and educates the membership of the Fargo Lions club on health-related issues supported by Lionism.
  Requirements:
 
  • Ensure confidentiality of all requests as appropriate.
  • Provide a monthly report to your Vice President on the Thursday preceding the regular Board meeting, detailing expenditures nd activities.
  • Meet as a committee to consider requests for eyeglasses or other vision, hearing, or health-related requests. Provide recommendations on this funding for the Board of Directors approval.
  • Communicate quarterly with the club membership the impact of our efforts related to this area of our mission as Lions.
  • Coordinate with the Public Relations Chair any information that may be of interest to the Fargo-Moorhead community - availability of funding, general kudos regarding our efforts, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Public Relations Committee to publicize health-related efforts and activities of the Fargo Lions club.
  • Support the ND Eye Bank as appropriate.
  • Promote and process collection of eyeglasses throughout community.
  • Maintain tissue transport list and provide to ND Eye Bank.
